Infographic on Mpox

I made this infographic on Mpox to help people better understand the WHO Public Health Emergency of International Concern for Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox). The infographic has gone viral on Twitter, so I thought that it might be of interest to you.

The new Clade 1 that is spreading in Africa tends to affect children and has a fairly high mortality rate in African countries. However, the Tecovirimat study below shows that the death rate is decreased if people with Mpox are hospitalized and receive high-quality supportive care. Unfortunately, Tecovirimat does not work well against Clade 1 according to this NIH news release from 8/15/24:
